Shawn, we need some feed backs on these videos bro
Great time to be a Bodybuilder back then!
I made this video to get the guys off the Couch and into the gym!
I had been watching shows that "Highlighted" the life and times of other sports athletes but nothing inspiring the Bodybuilders so in 1989, while preparing for the 1st ever pro Ironman I made a decision to "Go Hollywood" for any all Bodybuilders!
People training around the world wanted the California Dream of training at Gold's Gym next to the Barbarian Brothers, Cover Shots, Winning Contests, Hot Chicks, Fast Cars, Etc.
I sold that Dream in this video. In watching it for the first time in over a Decade, by comparision even with the Cheese & Flash, it takes me to a place that makes we wanna train and Live the Life!
Alot of stuff out there now by top guys, is monotonous, painfully slow, no direction or inspiration, no story lines, nothing.
It was a glimpe back in time that I recall really appreciating all that was happening to me, the sport, the relationships and enthusiasm. It was only 2 weeks later that I would win and fail the drug tested Arnold Classic but I kept rolling along because it felt so good to be a Bodybuilder that nothing could spoil that Life I had, even the $60G's I never got for winning the show!
That said, the Title Music was a friend of mines Band "Louie Louie" who provided me with the Song- "Lap of Luxury" before it was released as a Hit Single which they would later perform on the Arsenio Hall Show!
The video represented "Success" to me, which is why I tried to cover all the basis of the Hard Work in the Gym, other people's opinions, Contest Stage Footage, at home with mom and dad, out on the town etc.
What you guys saw wasn't "ACTING" that was my life and it had Balance and Realism inspite of the Fashion statements for the time period. I truly believed that the feedback I got from aspiring Bodybuilders that ever dime I spent producing the video was worth its weight in gold due to the amount of wanna be Bodybuilders who saw it said,
"He is who I want to be when I make it in this sport!"
Thanks again for Posting this and taking me to a place of Happiness and Warmth.
Priceless!
